Skylon Place Case Studies

MedDx Solutions

A fast growing firm that manufactures and supplies specialist medical equipment is on course to create more jobs following a move to new premises on Hereford’s Enterprise Zone.

MedDX Solutions, which supplies diagnostic sample collection and transport kits to the public and private healthcare sector, became the first occupier of the £1.6m Skylon Place development on Hursey Road in Rotherwas.

The company, which began in 2013, relocated to Skylon Place from premises just outside Hereford with 12 employees. There are plans to recruit a further eight people before the end of the year.

As founder and Director Richard Senior explained, it’s a move that has already helped to secure new business.

“We were looking for an environment that would reflect the high quality of our products and service and that was what we found at Skylon Place,” he said.

“We worked closely with the Enterprise Zone to tailor the premises to meet our own blueprint so that we could enjoy a seamless transition. That was one of the major benefits of choosing a move to Skylon Place.

“Shortly after moving here we secured new business with a client who was very impressed by our operation. It is an important factor for us that our facility reflects the quality of our business and we have achieved this at Skylon Place.”

ATN Europe Ltd

ATN-Europe was set up in 2015 as the European extension of American Technologies Network (ATN) Corp, a leading manufacturer and developer of high-performance night vision and thermal imaging optics.

Terence Garlick, the Operations Director, was recruited to set the company up, based on his extensive experience and knowledge of European distribution.  In addition to European sales, the company is now reaching buyers in the Middle East, Africa and Australia.  Customers have included the Forestry Commission, NFU, Qatar Navy, Danish Navy and Saudi Border Guard.

In the first year, the company grew from one to 11 employees, and there are plans to recruit a further 4 members of staff within the next 12 months.

The manufacture of the high end premium range of night vision goggles, binoculars and scopes is being brought back from China and will now take place in Hereford to ensure the highest level of quality control.

ATN-Europe recently moved into Skylon Place, a high quality, new courtyard development on Hereford Enterprise Zone.

“Herefordshire is the ideal place to live and work.  Herefordshire schools provide an excellent standard of education, with the Sixth Form College amongst the top providers of further education in the country (an important factor for a father of 6!).  Also, being able to tap into the knowledge and specialist resources available locally make product development that much easier.” Terence Garlick, Operations Director
