International exposure for Hereford’s Enterprise Zone

The UK's only Enterprise Zone with a defence and security focus will be looking to attract new companies to invest in Skylon Park when it exhibits at the world’s leading expo for the sector next month.

Representatives from the Zone will also be highlighting plans for a new cyber security centre on the site at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) conference in London’s ExCel from September 12 to 15.

The annual DSEI event attracts a global audience of more 30,000 delegates including top level international military staff, major procurement officials, and the entire industry supply chain from large prime contractors to supplying companies.

Bill Jackson, Chairman of the Hereford Enterprise Zone, said: “The cyber security sector is worth £17 billion and we aim to bring some of that investment to Hereford.

“At DSEI we will showcasing Skylon Park and outlinethe benefits it can bring to investors. We'll also be highlighting plans under development for a proposed cyber security centre, partly funded with £2.82m from the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership through its Growth Deal with Government, which would be delivered by the University of Wolverhampton.

Under the plans, the centre aims to feature 20 new tenant businesses creating up to 185 jobs, a research facility, and venue for the latest in cyber security training. 

Bill added: “Skylon Park is the only Enterprise Zone in the country focused on the defence and security sector, thanks to its links with world renowned special forces and the existing cluster of security focused businesses in this region.

Skylon Park is the 72-hectare site designated as the Enterprise Zone of The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, the private sector-led organisation tasked with revitalising the economy of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
