Showcase for sustainable travel plans at Hereford Enterprise Zone

Plans to improve home to work travel choices for the over 3,000 people who work at Rotherwas will be highlighted at a special event this month.

An open day at the Business Solutions Centre at Skylon Court, Rotherwas, on September 19 will highlight plans to improve movement around the Zone including the launch of a new regular bus service between the city centre and Skylon Park and a proposed scheme for a new cycleway along the Straight Mile.

Businesses will be able to find out more about grants available through the Rotherwas Travel Plan initiative to provide pool bikes, changing facilities for cyclists, and video-conferencing equipment and more.

There will also be the chance to have your say on the South Wye Transport Package options that involve walking and cycling improvements to Belmont Road, better routes to the Enterprise Zone, further improvements to Holme Lacy Road and proposals for 20mph residential zones.

Experts from Herefordshire Council, transport consultants JMP, the Safer Roads Partnership and the Enterprise Zone will be on hand to offer advice and listen to suggestions.

The event will run from 7.30am to 6.30pm with refreshments available all day with a hot lunch between midday and 2pm. Visitors will also be able to take advantage of a free bike marking service.

Herefordshire’s High Sheriff and Chairman of the Enterprise Zone’s Board Bill Jackson, said: “We are fully committed to making travel and transport linked to the Enterprise Zone as sustainable as possible while making access to and from Skylon Park as easy as possible.

“This drop-in session is designed to give local businesses and their staff the opportunity to find out what the options are to make their own businesses more sustainable and how they can tap into funding available to do that.

“We are also keen for people to comment on the proposals within the South Wye Transport Package as this is an important part of the long term plan to integrate the Enterprise Zone into the city’s transport network.”
